Publishers & Imprints

A publisher is the business that owns and runs your books — the legal and admin record with your contact details, address, and tax ID. An imprint is the public brand your books are published under: a name, logo, description, and social links. When you sign up, Pubblish creates one publisher and one imprint for you, both using your account name. Most authors manage a single Publishing Profile and never think about the two as separate things.

Opening your publisher

In the sidebar, under People, click Publishers.

If you have one publisher, this opens it straight away. What you see depends on your setup and role:

  • One imprint that shares your publisher’s name: the Publishing Profile page, where brand and business are edited together.
  • More than one imprint, or an imprint renamed to differ from the publisher: the tabbed publisher editor, covered under “Publishing under more than one brand” below.
  • No edit permission: a read-only detail page.

Editing a publisher needs the Editor role or higher. Deleting one needs the Admin role.

If you have several publishers, Publishers shows the full list instead. From the profile or editor page, the All publishers button (top right) always takes you to that list.

Your Publishing Profile

The Publishing Profile is one page with three parts.

Public identity is what readers see. It holds:

  • Logo — the brand image shown on cards and on a generated website.
  • Name — your publishing name.
  • Description — what you publish. This seeds the About page of a generated website.
  • Public email and Public website — public contact details. They appear on a generated website when that site turns contact details on.

Business details is the private record behind the brand. It holds your publisher UID, an Active toggle, and a Sort name used for filing. Below that, the Contact, Address, and Tax Identification sections hold the legal and admin information. None of this appears publicly.

By default the profile shows one Name field, and it writes to both the brand and the business at once. If your registered business name is different from your publishing name, click My business name differs from my publishing name in the Business details section. This reveals a separate Business name field. Once the two names differ, the page splits into the tabbed editor on your next visit.

Fields save on their own as you type. The Save & Continue button at the bottom also saves everything.

The Social links section holds your public profiles — X, Instagram, Substack, and so on.

  1. Choose a platform from the dropdown.
  2. Paste the profile URL.

Each link saves automatically. You can add one link per platform. Use the chevron arrows to reorder them. Social links show on a generated website when that site has contact details turned on.

Where your imprint appears

Your imprint is how a book is credited. Each edition of a title has an Imprint field — you choose it on the Editions tab of a title. See Editions.

New editions fill in a default imprint for you. You set that default in Settings, on the Defaults tab, under Publisher Defaults — the Default publisher and Default imprint fields. See Settings.

The imprint’s logo, description, and public contact details can also appear on a website you generate for it. See Websites.

Publishing under more than one brand

You can publish under more than one name — for example a main imprint for fiction and a second for non-fiction. Each imprint gets its own name, logo, description, and social links.

To add one:

  1. Open your publisher.
  2. In the Imprints section (or the Imprints tab), click Add Imprint.
  3. Fill in the imprint’s Name and save.

Adding a second imprint switches your publisher from the single Publishing Profile to a tabbed editor with Publisher, Imprints, and Notes tabs. The Imprints tab shows each imprint as a card. Click a card’s Edit to open that imprint’s own page.

An imprint’s own page has these sections:

  • Basic Information — logo, name, UID, an Active toggle, and sort name.
  • Public identity — description, public email, public website.
  • Social links — the imprint’s public profiles.
  • Assets — upload logos and promotional files for this imprint.

The Back to publisher button returns you to the publisher’s Imprints tab.

Deleting a publisher or imprint

You cannot delete an imprint while any edition still uses it. On the imprint’s delete page, Pubblish lists the editions that block deletion, each with a link to its edit page. Reassign those editions to another imprint first, then delete.

Deleting a publisher deletes its imprints too. If any of those imprints are used by editions, the publisher cannot be deleted until those editions are reassigned.
